In situ cleaning with CryoClean.

CO2 blasting, otherwise referred to as or cryogenic cleaning or dry ice blasting, isCryo-cleaning of rollers thelatest addition to the range offered by Standard Industrial Systems.  Widely used in Europe for a range of on site cleaning and maintenance tasks, CO2 technology allows critical cleaning of equipment in many cases without prior disassembly therefore greatly reducing machine downtime and labour costs.

Particularly suited to the cleaning of production equipment such as machining centres, presses and printing equipment, cryogenic cleaning will remove a wide range of surface contamination without causing abrasion damage to delicate substrates such as anilox rollers and painted surface.  In addition, unlike other techniques, the process does not produce any secondary waste in the form of water or blast media so the process is suitable for applications where electrical and electronic assemblies are involved.

How does it work?

The CryoClean process utilises solid carbon dioxide pellets which are accelerated toward the surface with compressed air.  It is important to note that it is not the kinetic energy or mechanical abrasion of the propelled particles which cleans the surface but the thermal shock of the super cooled CO2 which brings about a structural change in the contamination causing it to detach from the substrate.

The CryoClean process is totally environmentally friendly - the solid CO2 pellets sublimate to atmosphere immediately upon contact meaning that only removed soils are left for removal from the location

Some ”before and after” examples clearly demonstrate the effectiveness and versatility of carbon dioxide blasting in a wide variety of applications including electrical cabinets, motor assemblies and aerospace maintenance.

The applications where CryoClean technology can replace traditional surface cleaning methods are limitless.  The process has even been applied to the cleaning of moss stained brick elevations on local council properties where more environmentally conscious authorities have replaced processes such as high pressure water jetting which results in impact damage to ageing mortar and also subsequently brings salt contamination to the surface of the porous brickwork resulting in even more problems.

Non environmentally friendly and potentially hazardous chemical cleaning can also be eliminated from these public areas where concern about the use of these products is increasing.
